This book is all about the life and death of President John
F. Kennedy. It takes the story and journey that lead him into office and gives a
young reader a perspective in what made one of America’s most famous
presidents. I found this book to be a relatively quick read while it was full
of information about the president. The author has a whole section at
Books-A-Million on presidents that are all great reads for educating young
readers on our nation’s leaders.
The illustrations are all black pen on white paper. The
front cover is done in water paint, but the pages inside are full of very curvy
cartoon style illustrations of the events and places that followed the 35th
president’s life. There’s a lot of negative space in the illustrations, but it
doesn’t appear to be that way for any particular purpose. It’s a chapter book
with illustrations that help guide young readers through the story by keeping
them engaged.
This book is a appropriate for ages 8 and up. I could see
a teacher using this book in conjunction with a history lesson or around Presidents
Day. You could also use this as a read aloud for character education. You could
also start several writing prompts with this book. Overall, I think book is a
great way to educate young reader on the 35th president.
